What You Need For Satellite TV

If you are new to the world of satellite TV, then you may presume that a lot of preparation is needed for its installation. Surprisingly, you have only a few requirements beyond owning a television and much of the equipment involved is often available for free. When considering a new satellite TV installation, you need to concern yourself with the following three things: appropriate placement of the satellite dish, equipment, and installation.

Before you order your satellite service, you should first make sure that your location is prime for receiving a clear satellite signal. Ideally, your dish needs unobstructed southern exposure to the sky. Since television satellites use radio waves, the signal must travel in a straight line with no interference, which means your dish should be pointed up without any trees, power lines or buildings in its path.

If you do have adequate southern exposure, then you should be able to receive satellite service. However, renters will need permission from their landlords to install a dish. Permitted you are free to start your service, then it is time to acquire some equipment. Luckily, since there is so much competition within the satellite TV industry, you can often find companies that offer their equipment for free. Although service won't be free, you should be able to acquire the satellite dish and receiver(s) for no charge. A few companies even offer free installation, although that isn't as common as free equipment.

Once you have your satellite equipment, you can choose to have it installed by a professional or do it yourself. Self-installation is easier if you have a cable-ready home. Otherwise, you will have to install some RG-6 coaxial cable in addition to your other equipment. Although it is much easier to have the company whose service you are ordering install your dish and receiver for you, they will also be happy to answer any self-installation questions for you.

Once your satellite equipment is installed, either by you or a professional, your service will be ready for activation with a simple call to your provider of choice. If the equipment is being installed by the company in question, then they will do all of this on the same day and there will be nothing required from you (other than payment, of course). After that, you will be free to enjoy the hours of versatile entertainment that only satellite TV can provide.
