VOOM

VOOM HD Networks originally began as a direct satellite provider. Offering more HDTV channels than its main competitors DirecTV and Dish Network, VOOM was clearly ahead of its day when it launched in 2003. Unfortunately, its time as a satellite provider was brief due to the unwavering popularity of its competitors, plus the fact that VOOM's orbiting satellite was located too low in the sky for some U.S. customers to get a clear signal.

In 2005, only two years after the service was launched, VOOM stopped broadcasting due to financial difficulties. However, before the broadcast's demise, Dish Network took on its program lineup, which includes 21 high definition channels. Known as VOOM HD Networks, VOOM now exists not as an independent satellite provider but a stable of networks hosted exclusively by Dish Network.
