Sirius Satellite Radio

Sirius Satellite Radio is a paid radio network that broadcasts mainly in the United States and Canada; although some of its channels are available worldwide via the Internet. Sirius' only competitor is XM Radio, although the two announced in February 2007 that they are planning on a merger. Sirius Radio must certainly be an appealing partner for XM, as it offers over 100 commercial-free channels. Also, Sirius has one of satellite radio's biggest personalities under contract, Howard Stern. Stern has helped to keep Sirius in the news ever since he brokered a $100 million a year deal with the network.

In addition to Howard Stern, Sirius has partnered with many other celebrities, including Martha Stewart, Jimmy Buffett, Tony Hawk, Eminem and Steven Van Zandt of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. An eclectic blend of self-produced programming, in addition to celebrity endorsements, is something that sets Sirius apart from XM Radio.

Sirius Radio derives its name from the nighttime star of the same name, also known as the Dog Star. The official logo for the radio network is a dog with a star in its eye, something that is becoming increasingly recognizable to people as Sirius gains in popularity. With optional Sirius Radio receivers in many of today's newest cars, the network will only grow further. Subscription fees are quite low and potential customers will also be happy to know that many retailers are offering equipment at a reasonable price upon subscribing through their company. In some cases, a basic receiver can be obtained for free, which is particularly inviting to those who otherwise felt a bit timid about paying for their radio services.
